Our company have performed maintenance of simulators of nuclear power plant on 4 domestic sites. We have participated the development of simulator of nuclear power plant since 2001, and developed and supplied full range of products of simulator such as controller, input/output control cards, high speed protocol on control panel
Simulator of nuclear power plant
The simulator of Nuclear Power Plant is a simulation training control facility that allows operators of nuclear power plants to train nuclear power plant operation under the same circumstances as the actual situation, based on high safety and precision.
The simulator is available in the case of the operator’s training & license testing in various circumstances. Installed simulators in Korea are full scope simulator (FSS) which provide the same environment as main control room (MCR) that actual operators work at.
Composition of nuclear power plant simulator
Nuclear power plant simulators are composed of following components.
- 01Similar panels and meters (switches and controllers) to control panels of standard MCR
- 02Input/output Control modules and controller computers for signal processing
- 03High speed communication networking system between control computers
- 04) Instructor computers and software for manipulating simulators
- 05Model computers and software to operate mathematical model in real-time
- 06Development environmental software which can develop models of nuclear power plant
Operation of simulators in nuclear power plant
Simulators in nuclear power plant can educate and train apprentices by simulating the situation of nuclear power plant as below.
- 01Normal operation of nuclear power plant
- 02Operation for normal shutdown
- 03Operation for starting up
- 04Training for emergency situation
Especially, the training for abnormal situation simulates actual incidents or emergency of nuclear power plants. By this training, the operators can learn safe and prompt actions to keep power plant safe with repetitive training to operate main and auxiliary system.
Input/output control program of nuclear power plant simulators
Input/output control program of nuclear power plant simulators can operate in following two modes.
- 01Input/output data sharing with modeling computer for operating simulators
- 02GUI (Graphic User Interface), Inspection of instruments and input/output control system based on input/output signal list for maintenance of simulators
Maintenance of nuclear power plant simulators
Simulators of nuclear power plant are aggregation of electricity, electronics, communication and computer technology. Continuous maintenance is required for stable training of operators. Engineers are placed on each simulator for maintenance managing the following:
- 01Verification of startup and operating status of all simulators before operator training, replacement of broken parts
- 02Simulator management of operating status on training process
- 03Verification of operating status and the procedure of normal shutdown after training
- 04Keeping same appearance of simulators due to design changes of standard unit of real nuclear power plant
